My #31DaysofFitness

I HATE WORKING OUT! I know, I know. Hate is such a strong word. I used it because I’m SERIOUS! Lol.

I don’t like working out! If you told me you were giving me $100 a day if I worked out, I would probably ask you for the definition of working out. I had a gym membership for over 10 years, and I never grew to love it. I kicked and screamed my way through every workout. 

Really. I’m not athletic and I loathe working out. Have I mentioned that I hate working out? Seriously, I’m just not into it.

Welp . . . recently I had an epiphany. I finally realized that I had to CONSISTENLY get my butt up and start moving. If I was expecting a blessing of good health, I had to be willing to work for it.

I decided to put my big girl britches on and do the work.

#1010 RULE

I knew that a good starting point was getting at least 20-30 minutes of exercise in a day. So I committed to 20. Lol. I told you that I loathe working out. 

I’m not athletic, but I'm strategic . . . lol. I reversed engineered my fitness goal. Instead of setting myself up for failure, I decided to do 10 minutes of indoor cycling in the morning and 10 minutes at night. Now, now. Don’t judge me. I know you're wondering why 10 minutes.

It’s simple.

10 + 10 = 20.

I know that I can bike in 10 minute increments. This means I’m not setting myself up for failure. I’ll be motivated to get on the bike knowing that it'll be over in 10 minutes. 

Lol. Judge me!

Set goals that are practical and attainable. 

WHAT I’M USING

The funny thing is, I purchased a Hula hoop and a jump rope back in April and never took them out of the packaging!

They’ve been collecting dust for 8 months. Shame on me. But the good news is now I’m committing to using them at least 2-3 times a week. 

Start small and work your way up. 

That’s my motto for sustainable success. 

WATCH THE WATCH

My AppleWatch is helpful. It buzzes and vibrates throughout the day if I’m not on track to closing my rings and meeting my fitness goals. I love the convenience of checking my steps and being able to share my activity with friends.

THE EARLY BIRD CATCHES THE WORM

I’m usually awake super early every morning. 4:30-5:00AM every morning. That may be ungodly for some, but I enjoy it. The world is quiet, I can prep for my day and organize my thoughts in complete solitude and get started on my first 10 minutes of exercise. 

FIND YOUR TRIBE

To hold myself accountable, I came up with this bright idea to go live on Periscope while working out, a few times a week. It’s the #31DaysofFitness challenge. The support that I get from my Periscope community is encouraging. They cheer me on and it keeps me going.
