Why the Best Time to Plant a Tree Was 20 Years Ago

Have you heard that proverb before?

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” – Chinese Proverb

The planner in me looks at trees as plans and goals. Why? In our every day life we all have things we want to do. Maybe we have a goal to purchase a home, buy a car, or maybe even do something special or fun. We all have ideas to do something!

As simple as it may sound, it’s true.

The best time to make a plan was 20 years ago, but the second best time is now! Tomorrow isn’t promised.

That’s why today is a present.

If you haven't already you'll begin to get reminders to set your resolution, create a goal and make a fancy vision board. We’ve all had one or seen the best planners and vision boards. Big picture planning without creating action fades quickly for me. There’s been many years that were “new” but it was the same old me.

That said, I’m doing my best to finish the year strong and work on my #ACTIONPLAN. Instead of a vision board, I'm using an #ACTIONPLAN.

The #ACTIONPLAN is my way of making GOAL SETTING EASY. It's essentially the not-so-obvious secret way to accomplish your goals.

I’m no poster child, but I can tell you from experience. Don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today. I know, I know. This may be daunting, but I promise you there are some things that you can do to get out of your slump and create an #ACTIONPLAN

Here’s 3 ways simple but not-so-obvious strategies that I’m using to begin taking #ACTION today:

1. WORK ON YOUR MINDSET

Your perspective and the way you think about life is everything. It’s the start and end of success or failure. Your mood, attitude and behavior are all predicated on what you think.

Honestly, I’m convinced that your mindset is the catalyst for success.

If you’re struggling wIth how you feel, take a moment to stop and get your mind right. Seek help, from friends, family members or even a professional if necessary. I’ve learned that a closed mouth doesn’t get fed. Listen to podcast, read a book or even attend a church or local meet up. By all means necessary, you need to be in a good frame of mind to accomplish anything in life.

2. MAKE AN ASSESSMENT

Once you’ve addressed the mindset issue, then you can be in a good place to make an assessment of your situation.

It may be one of the hardest things that you’ll have to do, but it’s important to make an assessment before taking action.

3. REVERSE ENGINEER IT

Once you’ve made an assessment of your life then you can really begin to move forward. Start with an end result and work backwards. That’s how you REVERSE ENGINEER it. Yes, I know, it sounds complicated but it’s not. I promise.

You’ll find that you can make better choices when you’re aware of the full scope of your situation.

If you plant your seed of action today, you’ll water your tree tomorrow. That’s why the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago and the best next time is today.

If you’re pulling the trigger on making a decision. I encourage you to #DOITAFRAID!
