Last week was challenging to say the least.

As I continue on my personal improvement + consistency journey I'm learning a lot about myself.

I was a dreamer. I used to have "big ideas".
Once upon a time I told myself I wanted to be a lawyer and a business owner. I spent my sixth grade summer in a "Young Achievers Career Preperation" program. It was two months worth of dreaming and planning. I loved it.

In this program we learned about resumes, college - choosing a major, internships + of course career planning. I loved it. Our final project was to write a 15 year plan. This was so much fun for me. You couldn't tell me that I wasn't going to be a lawyer. I distinctly had 4 business ideas. I just knew all of those dreams would come true. Lol! Literally lol.

Life happened + I'm not a lawyer. Lol. I attended college + "almost" became a lawyer. My major was Criminology + professional + technical writing. Lol again y'all.

I own a business but it's only 1 of 4 that I had planned.

What's the old adage, "Man plans and God laughs."

A couple things happened last week that made me check myself (that's a story for another day). I've been "sleeping" y'all! Complacency can sneak in and get you all confused.

"Get 👏🏾 your 👏🏾 life 👏🏾" was what I heard God telling me.

No worries though, I'm about to get my life! All the way together.

Here's my strategy to live with intention + stay woke when you can't afford to stay sleep:

As a teenager, if I got in trouble my moms way of getting me straight was making sure I did some self reflection. She'd say, "Take stock of your life!" She was essentially saying, "What's going on with you?", or "Is this how you want to be remembered?" In hindsight everything is different.I find myself saying the same thing to my son.

If you "took stock of your life + really analyzed it, chances are you already know what went wrong.

I like to tell my 11 year old to work backwards or reverse engineer it.

If you want to be a doctor you know there are a few things you need to do to get there - residency, Medical school, undergrad, good grades in high school etc. I'm really trying to get him to see the steps that it takes. In fact, I need him to understand that he has to put in the work. Every decision in your life impacts your next move.

If you have a plan, what are the daily actions that will get you there?

Developing a strategy will get you whatever you want in life.

Look at what you want and decide what it will take to get you there.

Everyone who's ever taken a shower has had an idea. It's the person who gets out of the shower, dries off and does something about it that makes a difference. #FACTS!

The graveyard is probably one of the richest places on earth. So many people die with gifts, talents + big dreams.

I'm naturally a planner. So sometimes I have to check myself to make sure I'm not getting lost in the hamster wheel. Only when you take action will those great ideas matter.

Do you you a dream that you've been sleeping on? You better...
